SYNOPSIS
Much of Mieko Aoki’s work is constructed by a repetition of round shapes, straight lines, and graffiti-like scribbles. Through the abstract expression, Aoki is trying to combine aspects of both real world and the human curiosity to the unknown.

KEY IDEAS
Since early in her career, Aoki had been tried to draw “a existence of nature” which doesn't mean just “a landscape picture”. In the background, her thinking was influenced by a strange experience like the movie, “Spirited Away.” When she was in a grade school, she had an experience like the spirited away movie in the forest near the house. From the valuable episode, she has been interested in some feeling of awe against a nature.

In current her works, she seeks to human curiosity and imagination to some unknown or mysterious area through abstract expression.  If some puzzle is existent at just front of you, you may casually begin to untie it, even though the puzzle doesn’t have a correct answer. Aoki loves the challenging spirit and human dauntless (unconscious) courage. Sometimes, her painting is slightly tricky and she enjoys looking on your troubled face. For achieving her paintings, public viewer’s curiosity, or inquiring mind is absolutely a necessary.
